Oriundos de Phoenix, a banda editou em 2008 o seu primeiro álbum &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;font-size:100%;" &gt;Tell it to the volcano, &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;trabalho esse que passou como que despercebido à maior da imprensa norte-americana. Após este ensaio, os elementos da banda deixaram o desértico Arizona para trás fixando-se no mais cosmopolita bairro de Brooklyn, descrito por muitos no presente como o local mais hip e efervescente dos territórios indie norte-americanos. Em boa hora o fizeram, a julgar pelas texturas deste &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;font-size:100%;" &gt;Fortress&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;, que conta com a colaboração de nomes como Neon Indian ou Chris Chu (The Morning Benders), assumindo as despesas da produção.  No entanto, muitos dos seus seguidores iniciais estão hoje cépticos a esta mudança, sendo a banda acusada por alguma imprensa de Phoenix de terem renegado as sua origens, de modo a romperem o anonimato e as dificuldades de promoção a que muitos projectos "não-costeiros" estão sujeitos. Os comentários multiplicam-se pelos threads de opinião na imprensa local, havendo quem não perdoe aos Miniature Tigers a traição de já nem no seu Myspace assumirem a paternidade do Arizona, inscrevendo Brooklyn, NYC. De resto, alguns dos seus pares, como os Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, foram alvo de críticas semelhantes, estes por terem reeditado o seu primeiro e muito aclamado trabalho &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Broom&lt;/span&gt; (editado inicialmente pela própria banda numa label criada para o efeito) por uma major, tendo feito nessa altura havido cedências quanto à produção do álbum, que nessa segunda aparição surgiu com um som mais clean, perdendo-se de certa forma a marca que nos reconduzia a uma pequena banda de garagem de Springfield, Missouri. Poderemos pois questionar a relação que a imprensa, os blogs da especialidade e mesmo o público norte-americano terão com a geografia de cada projecto, mas a crua realidade é que, neste momento, &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;font-size:100%;" &gt;Brooklyn is the place to be&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;.&lt;/span&gt; Não se trata de uma coincidência, mas sim de uma mera extensão da natureza das suas composições, também elas encarceradas e presas à sua essência. Ao longo do álbum &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"&gt;Because i was in love&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"&gt;, um sóbrio exercício de desconstrução dos momentos que se seguem a uma ruptura, aquela solidão não só é perceptível, como perene na compreensão da sua escrita. Como a própria autora já referiu em diversas entrevistas, existe por vezes como que uma recusa ou uma fuga a um registo assumidamente melancólico por parte dos seus pares, o que não se verifica no seu caso, pois as suas palavras e vocalizações pressupõem uma relação directa e intimista com cada um daqueles que a escuta, radicando uma enorme depuração e despojamento por parte de van Etten que, pelo contrário, parece labirinticamente tecer essa mesma melancolia em cada faixa, não se furtando dela, escrevendo sobre ela. Daqui resulta uma enorme honestidade na sua interpretação, transversal aos arranjos que acompanham as suas composições e à forma como se apresenta em palco. Faixas como "&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;I fold&lt;/span&gt;" ou "&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Keep&lt;/span&gt;" comportam momentos de solidão e de rara beleza, pela sua contida reclusão; Aqui, trilhou os primeiros caminhos de &lt;span style="FONT-STYLE: italic"&gt;Open field&lt;/span&gt;, o álbum de originais que veio a gravar algumas semanas mais tarde, regressada a Gotemburgo. Contudo, de Portugal levou também a sua futura assinatura, &lt;span style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold;color:#3366ff;" &gt;Taken by Trees&lt;/span&gt;, o nome do seu projecto a solo que denuncia o encanto da compositora escandinava por uma árvore em particular, sobre a qual compôs a última faixa do álbum: &lt;span style="FONT-STYLE: italic"&gt;Cedar trees&lt;/span&gt;. Mas se conceptualmente &lt;span style="FONT-STYLE: italic"&gt;Open field&lt;/span&gt; apontava para o Atlântico Sul, já a atmosfera do mesmo de imediato nos recordava o imaginário de uma outra menina de franja, a escocesa Tracyanne Campbell e os seus Camera Obscura. Se as semelhantes vocalizações de ambas seriam suficiente motivo para tal analogia, maior pertinência ganhou esta comparação a partir do momento em que Tracyanne passou a colaborar nas gravações do álbum, assinando mesmo uma das suas faixas. O resultado foi um álbum de composições naives e delicadas, pautadas pela interpretação distante e etérea de Victoria, passeando-se melancólica sob uma produção cuidada e meticulosamente simples. Apenas a imprensa não parece terpercorrido &lt;span style="FONT-STYLE: italic"&gt;Open field&lt;/span&gt;, tão poucas as menções à edição do mesmo; facto para o qual contribuiu a conhecida e já confessada timidez de Victoria Bergsman, quase sempre avessa a concertos ou mesmo entrevistas, sentindo-se intimidada pelo facto de os focos se virarem agora apenas para ela.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;Cerca de três anos passaram, e ainda é a mesma Victoria Bergsman que encontramos em &lt;span style="FONT-STYLE: italic"&gt;East of Eden&lt;/span&gt;: doce e tímida. Porém, a ruptura com o passado recente não poderia ser maior, pela sua geografia ou atmosfera. Gravado no longínquo Paquistão, o segundo álbum de Taken by Trees partiu de um pressuposto que não se cumpriu: o de uma colaboração com vozes femininas daquelas paragens. A própria Victoria explicou mais tarde que encontrou inultrapassáveis obstáculos, logísticos, culturais e religiosos, para a consecução de tal desejo. Face a esta adversidade logo à chegada, o passo expectável seria o de um regresso à Escandinávia; contudo, Victoria decidiu levar o seu projecto adiante, cedendo nos seus fundamentos e procurando uma constante partilha com músicos locais, da qual resultaram sessões e improvisos em salas de estar e pequenos pátios, apressadamente gravados para um simples Macbook, por vezes apenas num take, capturando desta forma a espontaneidade daqueles instrumentistas que nunca entraram (ou entrarão) num estúdio de gravação. Todo esse material recolhido ao longo de várias semanas foi então decomposto em inúmeras composições, ou pelo menos em pequenos rascunhos, seguindo-se então o regresso a Gotemburgo para a produção do mesmo. Ao longo de todas as faixas de &lt;span style="FONT-STYLE: italic"&gt;East of Eden&lt;/span&gt; podemos escutar os sons da multidão que corre nas ruas, do trânsito apressado e caótico, as buzinas das trotinetas que aceleram por entre estreiras vielas. É esta a atmosfera que percorre todo o álbum, e que apenas na distante voz de Victoria Bergsman encontra um traço ocidental. Até mesmo &lt;span style="FONT-STYLE: italic"&gt;My boys&lt;/span&gt; (uma singular cover de My girls dos Animal Collective) surge-nos por momentos irreconhecível. que passaram pelo meu iPod, e perante todas elas desde já me desculpo. Não é que as suas composições sejam menores ou as suas vozes não me tenham feito cativo, mas presta-se este curto texto a uma confissão de que, até ao dia 05 de Agosto, nenhuma outra me encantou de uma forma tão bela como a menina &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Laura Gibson&lt;/span&gt; e o seu &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Beasts of seasons&lt;/span&gt;. Essa mesma beleza, encontramo-la em faixas como &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Spirited&lt;/span&gt; ou &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Sweet deception&lt;/span&gt;, momentos em que nos deparamos com uma timidez que parece embalar as suas vocalizações, em que somos assaltados pela assunção de uma contida inquietude, em que as palavras são demarcadas na sua fragilidade e doçura. &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Beasts of seasons&lt;/span&gt; parte de um sentimento de solidão, encerrando dois caminhos, duas escolhas definidas pela sua autora na estrutura daquele: num "Lado A" encontramos as denominadas "&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Communion songs&lt;/span&gt;", composições que exploram as relações com a família, com terceiros, com Deus; no seu "Lado B" as "&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Funeral songs&lt;/span&gt;" são determinadas pela assunção dessa mesma solidão, pela forma como a autora lida com essa condição e a assume como inevitável. Esta conceptualização é reveladora do cuidado com que Laura Gibson teceu os fios deste seu trabalho, da enorme carga emocional que percorre cada uma das suas letras, cada uma delas portadora momentos de redenção, ou como a própria refere, de um urgente alívio. Mas se a solidão marca o trajecto deste segundo álbum de Laura Gibson, já a sua gravação contou com a colaboração de inúmeros músicos, também eles oriundos da cidade de Portland, entre outros, Nate Query (The Decemberists), Rachel Blumberg (Bright Eyes), Adam Selzer (Norfolk &amp;amp; Western), Danny Seim (Menomena) e a não menos ilustre Laura Veirs. Quando a mesma melodia é assobiada num longo e interminável corredor de um qualquer &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;shopping&lt;/span&gt; e em Barcelona, junto ao solarengo palco do &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Primavera Sound&lt;/span&gt;. Poderá existir uma sobreposição entre o momento em que escutamos essa mesma melodia pela primeira vez no quarto e os sucessivos abalroamentos polifónicos que sofremos nos meses seguintes? O que se perde em todo este processo? Quando milhares escutaram pela primeira vez o single &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Young folks&lt;/span&gt;, poucos seriam aqueles que reconheceram a voz etérea de Victoria Bergsmann ou teriam naquela semana ficado agarrados ao registo em animação que embrulhava uma faixa tão doce chegada no anonimato. Hoje, após um ano e meio de concertos pela Europa, Ásia e EUA, de consecutivas inserções em &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;playlists&lt;/span&gt;, anúncios publicitários e colectâneas, será ainda menor o número daqueles que deram pela edição há poucas semanas de &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Seaside rock&lt;/span&gt;, o segundo álbum do projecto &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(51, 102, 255);"&gt;Peter, Bjorn &amp;amp; John&lt;/span&gt;. Tal facto não é de estranhar, pois este trabalho parece ter como derradeiro objectivo uma clara demarcação do anterior, tendo mesmo o seu conteúdo um carácter egoístico, tal a forma como parece isolar-se no território adolescente de Peter Móren.&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;font-size:85%;" &gt;Seaside rock&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt; representa a subversão das expectativas criadas, ao convocar o imaginário da&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;font-size:85%;" &gt; spoken word&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt; em faixas como "&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;font-size:85%;" &gt;Erik's fishing trip"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt; ou a vastidão da paisagem escandinava em longas composições instrumentais. Não existe aqui a mínima pretensão de vender milhares de &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;singles&lt;/span&gt;, mas apenas um desejo tremendo de filtrar tudo aquilo que nunca coube em &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;font-size:85%;" &gt;Writer's block&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt; é um nome estranho de se pronunciar. Fundador do projecto islandês Seabear, distancia-se cada vez mais da sua matriz eminentemente acústica, explorando o vasto território da electrónica e a capacidade de integrar nas suas composições elementos pré-gravados no seu laptop ou pequenos samples avulsamente recolhidos. As faixas surgem-nos marcadas por um imediatismo convulsivo, uma ansiedade descoordenada e um irresistível e pueril encanto, como se Sindri tivesse nas suas mãos um Game Boy que obstinadamente tentava dominar. Aliás, o que escutamos nos primeiros segundos de &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Clangour&lt;/span&gt;, é a sua ansiedade em pontuar &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Advent in Ives Garden&lt;/span&gt; com todos os elementos electrónicos a que pôde recorrer, o que resulta em algo muito semelhante ao que encontramos nos álbuns de Shogu Tokumaru: a urgência de se transformar certas composições numa autêntica corrida. No entanto, Sindri não corre contra o tempo; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(51, 102, 255);"&gt;Sin Fang Bous&lt;/span&gt; é um projecto que se completou em sua casa, tendo de imediato existido o interesse da sua editora, a Morr Music, de distribuir este primeiro longa-duração. Esta marca doméstica de todo o processo libertou ainda mais Sindri na sua exploração e consequente demarcação daquilo que tinha sido editado pelos Seabear anteriormente, um projecto que envolve sete músicos, e que é por vezes comparado aos Belle &amp;amp; Sebastian. é para muitos uma porta de entrada. Ainda que&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;o seu primeiro trabalho, intitulado &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Night piece&lt;/span&gt;, date de 2004, &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(51, 102, 255);"&gt;Shugo Tokumaru&lt;/span&gt; permanece enredado no anonimato, refém das suas vocalizações em japonês e de uma certa estranheza ou aversão pela chamada &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;J-pop&lt;/span&gt;. No entanto, derivar todo o seu percurso apenas de uma etiqueta seria erróneo e injusto, pois se existe algo que o define são os contornos erráticos e a nervosa inquietude que serpenteia pelas suas composições. Em &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Exit &lt;/span&gt;os primeiros segundos correm apressados num doce disparo intitulado &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Parachute&lt;/span&gt; (ou &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Prachute&lt;/span&gt; se quisermos ser fiéis ao refrão) no qual a electrónica se precipita sobre uma melodia contagiante. Ao longo de todo o álbum é difícil definir quais os momentos em que uma pop composta e detalhada emerge em desfavor de uma folk depurada num registo de DIY, assim como pode ser ingrata a tarefa de classificar o pendor mais ou menos electrónico de certas faixas. O facto é que Tokumaru pretende e consegue, em faixas de não mais de três minutos, combinar todos aqueles elementos, como em &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Button&lt;/span&gt; ou &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Clocca&lt;/span&gt;, daí resultando por vezes uma marca quase que laboratorial. Se algumas destas composições apresentam traços esquivos e desajeitados, presas por fios que artificialmente se entrelaçam, já &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Sanganishi&lt;/span&gt; deve o seu embalo a um qualquer autor de &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;indie folk &lt;/span&gt;do Midwest norte americano, tal a autenticidade que apenas é abalada pelo idioma em que é interpretada. E nem a pequena peça instrumental presente em&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt; Exit&lt;/span&gt; deixa de resgatar um sorriso quando julgamos escutar uma composição infantil intitulada &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Future umbrella&lt;/span&gt;, pontuada por elementos orientais e pela destreza de Shugo Tokumaru.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style=""&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.popdealer.podomatic.com/"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(255, 204, 51);"&gt;podcast&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.popdealer.podomatic.com/"&gt; de 25 de Novembro de 2008&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Escrevo enquanto escuto o seu último trabalho, &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;To be still&lt;/span&gt;, editado pela &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.roughtraderecords.com/"&gt;Rough Trade&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt; cuja influência nos territórios indie assegura nos dias de hoje a merecida atenção que as composições de Alela  há muito reivindicavam. Ainda enquanto figurante nas fileiras da &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.grassrootsrecordco.com/"&gt;Grassroots&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;, ao lado de nomes como Mariee Sioux ou Alina Estelle Hardin, parecia gradualmente ultrapassar as estanques fronteiras daquela pequena &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;label&lt;/span&gt; de folk e bluegrass. Com o seu primeiro longa duração, &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;The pirate's gospel&lt;/span&gt;, deu o sempre determinante primeiro passo ao romper com a indiferença da imprensa, recolhendo um crescente número de seguidores que se deixaram levar pela sua voz, portadora de uma rara identidade. Na sequência da sua promoção, Alela actuou por várias vezes em França, tendo ainda percorrido dezenas de estados norte americanos ao longo de vários meses, parecendo hoje cada vez mais longínquos os posts no seu myspace nos quais solicitava quartos onde pudesse pernoitar. Foi ainda ao longo dessa múltipla sucessão de datas que Diane começou a experimentar em palco algumas das suas composições que figurariam neste &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;To be still&lt;/span&gt;. Num registo ainda depurado, próprio do seu trabalho anterior, podemos escutar alguns desses avanços na sua &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.daytrotter.com/"&gt;Daytrotter session&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt; ou na sua passagem pelas ruas de Paris sob o foco da câmera de Vincent Moon, na já reconhecida &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.blogotheque.net/"&gt;La Blogothèque&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;.&lt;/span&gt; O resultado dessa lenta evolução pode ser descrito como mais composto, menos naif e claramente mais ousado; curiosamente um caminho semelhante áquele percorrido por outra singer songwriter emergente na indie folk norte americana: Dana Falconberry. Ambas partiram de álbuns de uma autenticidade a toda a prova, na forma como dependiam apenas da voz, de uns quantos acordes e das palavras; porém, chegados a 2009, deparamo-nos com verdadeiros álbuns de estúdio, com cuidados arranjos e uma produção polida (veja-se à distância a interpretação de faixas como &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;To be still &lt;/span&gt;e&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt; My brambles&lt;/span&gt; em 2007). Mas talvez aquilo que é mais surpreendente em Alela Diane nem seja esta evolução, mas sim um projecto intitulado &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Headless Heroes&lt;/span&gt;. Chegado aos meus &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;headphones&lt;/span&gt; há algumas semanas atrás, foi difícil não escutar as suas dez faixas por repetidas vezes. Passível de ser obscurecido por &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;To be still&lt;/span&gt; trata-se de uma proposta do produtor nova-iorquino Eddie Bezalel que, ao escutar a voz de Alela através no seu myspace, convidou-a a interpretar alguns clássicos de nomes tão ilustres como Nick Cave, The Jesus &amp;amp; Mary Chain, Vashti Bunyan ou Linda Perhacs. Se dúvidas havia de que a voz de Diane se reveste de uma rara beleza, todas elas serão certamente dissipadas ao longo das referidas dez faixas, ao adquirir contornos etéreos,  entrelaçando-se em riffs de guitarra ou incorporando letras algo distantes daquelas a que associamos a sua voz, revelando-nos deste modo uma dimensão que permanecia escondida: a de vocalista. Por vezes julgamos mesmo escutar Victoria Legrand dos Beach House, Emily Haines ou mesmo Amy Millan. Ao contrário dos seus pares britânicos, o legado de Gainsbourg e da &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;chanson française&lt;/span&gt; permanece arredado e distante no horizonte do Atlântico Norte. Jarvis Cocker confessou há muito o seu fervor pela obra do referido compositor. Scott Walker e Neil Hannon cruzaram por várias vezes os seus caminhos com o de Jacques Brel. Damon Albarn celebrou de uma forma particularmente elegante a &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;nouvelle vague&lt;/span&gt;, aquando da gravação da faixa &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;To the end&lt;/span&gt;, em 1994, ao partilhar as vocalizações da mesma com Françoise Hardy. A distância de que falo não embate pois na barreira linguística; perde-se talvez na clausura cultural, própria da imensidão de um território que encerra uma multitude de sonoridades. No entanto, existem excepções, e uma delas intitula-se &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.whitehinterland.com/"&gt;White Hinterland&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;, projecto que esconde uma exímia letrista chamada Casey Dienel, autora de pequenas crónicas urbanas, nas quais as personagens surgem-nos frenéticas e autênticas, um pouco perdidas no turbilhão dos dias ou meramente afastadas da crua realidade. Oriunda de Boston, em 2006 Casey editou o seu primeiro trabalho homónimo: uma colecção de pequenas peças erráticas e por vezes jazzisticas,  cuja interpretação se decompunha em voz e piano. Mais tarde, a mutação em White Hinterland, sinónimo de  maturidade e de um maior cuidado nas suas composições. Com este projecto surgiram os arranjos de cordas, uma escrita menos centrada em estudos de personagem, encerrando uma maior dimensão poética, e acima de tudo, o fim da solidão em palco e no estúdio. Em 2008, Casey decidiu expandir as fronteiras deste projecto, tendo editado em Outubro o EP &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Luniculaire&lt;/span&gt;, tributo ao imaginário francófono e a algumas vozes que o traçaram. Nele encontramos reinterpretações de &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Requiem pour un con&lt;/span&gt; de Gainsbourg, &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Mon ami la rose&lt;/span&gt; de Hardy e &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;J'ai 26 ans&lt;/span&gt; de Brigitte Fontaine, às quais se juntam dois originais de Dienel, também escritos em francês e evocativos daquele legado. A sua editora (Dead Oceans) compara-a a &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.elizabethfraser.com/"&gt;Elizabeth Fraser&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;. de 21 de Outubro de 2008&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;Há cerca de um mês chegou à minha caixa de correio um álbum intitulado &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Oh skies of grey&lt;/span&gt;. Na capa, uma menina recortada de cabelos negros segura um pássaro de papel. No seu interior, um bilhete denuncia o entusiasmo por um primeiro trabalho há muito aguardado. Desde há três anos que &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.danafalconberry.com/"&gt;Dana Falconberry&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;reside na cidade texana de Austin, um dos pontos de maior efervescência no roteiro indie norte-americano, pelo que não é de estranhar que cedo tivesse dividido o seu tempo entre os estudos e a composição, actuando em pequenas salas e captando a atenção dos mais atentos. Um deles, de nome Red Hunter, fundador do projecto &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 153, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.myspace.com/whiskeyandapples"&gt;Peter &amp;amp; The Wolf&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;, interessou-se pelas vocalizações depuradas de Dana, que a partir de 2006 passou a integrar o projecto. No entanto, o seu percurso a solo há muito que se encontrava traçado, e nesse mesmo ano editou &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Paper sailboat&lt;/span&gt;, um EP que reunia seis das suas composições,  todas elas portadoras de uma inegável autenticidade folk, que se traduzia num registo de&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt; storyteller&lt;/span&gt; evocativo de um passado distante (a própria capa do EP deriva de uma fotografia do início do século passado, encontrada num baú, pertença dos avós de Dana). Esta marca encontramo-la ainda em&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt; Oh skies of grey&lt;/span&gt;, ancorando o álbum ao território folk,  mesmo se a produção e os arranjos do mesmo surgem cuidados, mesmo quando a presença de guitarra, piano e bateria enriquecem as composições de Dana, adornando a sua voz, esta sim, ainda presa a um passado distante, girando no prato de um vinyl poeirento ou ecoando pelo  velho soalho de um quarto de hotel. Há muito companheiras de estrada, partilhando o mesmo palco e o estúdio, libertam Dana Falconberry do despojamento e da solidão que eram evidentes nas suas primeiras composições.
